Article from spring 2020 Wigger Mode is a family business that has existed for over 60 years. The company, which was originally called “Modehuis Wigger-Kellerhuis,” was founded in 1958 by Jan Wigger and his wife Willy Wigger-Kellerhuis. In the small shop in Losser at the time, hats and ready-to-wear clothing were sold. Willy altered clothing herself and decorated the hats. In the following years, several expansions and renovations took place, and the assortment was expanded with larger sizes and coats.
From Wigger Kellerhuis to Wigger Mode In 1987, the business was taken over by their son Paul Wigger together with his wife Josephien. Several renovations were carried out, and in 2005 the neighbouring building was purchased. This expanded the shop to almost 300 m², increasing the range and making it more modern again. In 2007, the shop was reopened, and from that moment on it was called “Wigger Mode.” Meanwhile, the third generation is also part of the management.
In 2014, almost all lighting was replaced with LED lights, and 80 m² of solar panels were installed—a big step towards sustainable entrepreneurship. In 2017, the shop was completely renovated again and adapted to the latest trends. The renewed collection is a continuous process, and a suitable interior is of course essential. Using natural materials such as pine wood, steel, and polished concrete, a modern foundation was created. The rest of the interior was also completely renewed, and with new mannequins, the presentation of the brands stands out perfectly. Every day they continue to work with great enthusiasm in the fashion industry and on renewing their collections.
“We love fashion and combining styles. The motto is: a customer should leave the store happy.” They also enjoy organising events together with colleagues from other sectors in the town centre. This way, they bring expertise together, strengthen each other, and show that the village of Losser has a lot to offer. At Wigger Mode you will find over 20 fashion brands, personal attention, and local hospitality. With a wide range of brands and sizes from 34 to 48, there is a suitable outfit for every type of woman. They are a true trouser specialist, with the right fit for every body shape. They also offer a wide selection of jackets, both summer and winter. The collections and matching accessories are continuously updated according to the latest trends, ensuring something new every time. They combine different brands in a unique way, giving the collection its own character and atmosphere.
They are also involved in various initiatives. In collaboration with neighbouring businesses, they contribute to atmosphere during events, for example with flags and banners. They also participate in various committees within town centre management.
“We like to surprise you with inspiring brands, a clear presentation, attractive promotions, and an enthusiastic, personal way of helping. We are approachable and listen to our customers’ wishes, but also bring in new ideas. With our Twente down-to-earth mentality, we provide honest advice. You will also find old-fashioned good service, such as our alteration service, free parking in front of the door, and a cup of coffee at the reading table (also for the gentlemen!).”
How did they experience the COVID crisis? Very difficult and unreal. With great enthusiasm, a seasonal planning was made in January. When in mid-March it became clear what impact the pandemic would have, all events had to be cancelled. RIVM measures turned daily life upside down and turnover dropped dramatically. Various measures were introduced: the team stayed home for the first weeks, opening hours were reduced, and hygiene and distancing rules were followed. But doing nothing is not in their vocabulary. They continued with photoshoots to present their collection via social media, and a giveaway with Etos Losser attracted a lot of attention.
A new service introduced during this period was “personal shopping,” where customers could make an appointment for one-on-one shopping with personal advice. Home delivery was also possible, and opening hours were adjusted.
“We miss personal contact and hope to see everyone again soon!”
