The liberation of Twente took place in the spring of 1945 and was part of the final phase of World War II in the Netherlands. Here are some of the important events surrounding the liberation of Twente:

March - April 1945: Allied Advance

Canadian and British troops enter Holland after successful Allied operations in France and Belgium in 1944.

In March 1945:

Allies reached the Rhine River and began Operation Plunder, invading Germany.

Early April 1945: Liberation of Twente

April 1: The first Allies reached the Achterhoek and approached Twente.

April 3 ↵.

Enschede was liberated by British and Canadian engineering, after heavy fighting.

April 4-5:

Cities such as Hengelo, Almelo and Oldenzaal were liberated.

April 6:

The liberation of Haaksbergen and Goor followed.

April 8-10:

Rijssen, Nijverdal and other Twente villages were released from German occupation.
