With recent innovations, it is now even easier and more fun to explore these routes.
What is the Twents Blokje Om?
The Twents Blokje Om is a collection of five varied walking routes, each with its own theme and story. Together they form a network of approximately 300 kilometers of hiking trails through the Twente countryside. Whether you choose a short walk or a longer tour, you will always experience the real Twente.
The five routes are:
Stuwwalroute 50 km: Explore Twente's highest stuwwal and enjoy vast heathlands and beautiful views.
Essenroute 70 km: Walk along centuries-old ashes, streams and scattered farms that make up the characteristic Twente landscape.
Smuggle Route 65 km: Follow the footsteps of smugglers through meadows, forests and past old commissary huts on the border with Germany.
Tramway Route 15 km: Walk along the former tramway route between Oldenzaal and Denekamp and discover historical sights such as the Plechelmus Basilica and the Palthe House.
Boeskoolroute 20 km: The latest addition to the Twents Blokje Om, this route takes you through the heart of Twente and introduces you to local culture and nature.
